Fall fun isn’t just reserved for the weekend. From horticultural society meetings to TV parties and everything in between, here’s a look at some things to do in the Hamilton area this week.
Ancaster Horticultural Society meeting
The Ancaster Horticultural Society meets Tuesday, Oct. 17, at the Ancaster Old Town Hall, 310 Wilson St. E. at 7:30 p.m. This month’s guest speaker is Chantal Theijn from the Hobbitstee Wildlife Refuge. The event begins with a social time, followed by some announcements and the presentation at 8 p.m. Refreshments will be served. Bring your own cup. All are welcome and the event is free to attend. AGH Fest
On Tuesday, Oct. 17 at 7 p.m., AGH Fest presents author Britt Wray, in-conversation with journalist Molly Hayes, discussing Wray’s recent book, “Generation Dread” and her ongoing research into the emotional and psychological impacts of the planetary health crisis. The event takes place at the Art Gallery of Hamilton, 123 King St. W. Tickets are $15, available online.
On Wednesday, Oct. 18, 1 to 3 p.m., the Westdale Theatre, 1014 King St. W., presents a taste of TV nostalgia, featuring two rare, 16-millimetre films. These ABC fall preview reels from 1977 and 1978 are packed with clips from “Laverne and Shirley,” “Mork and Mindy,” “Happy Days,” “Charlie’s Angels,” “The Love Boat,” “Three’s Company,” “Soap,” “Battle of the Network Stars,” “Good Times” and more. TV historian Bill Brioux hosts this event, with cool TV trivia prizes awarded. Tickets range from $11 to $14 at thewestdale.ca.
Dundurn Market presents Wind Down Wednesdays, a weekly guided movement and meditation series facilitated by Kay’la Fraser from Flora & Fauna Holistic. The event is Wednesday, Oct. 18, 5 to 6:15 p.m. at Dundurn Market, 346 Dundurn St. S. See more on Eventbrite.

The Winona Horticultural Society holds its October meeting and election for the board of directors on Wednesday, Oct. 18, 7:30 to 9:30 p.m. at St. John’s Anglican Church hall, 285 Hwy. 8. Following the election, guest speaker Paul Knowles, a gardener, humorist, and author, will speak about his latest work and offer a book signing.
Dundas Farmers’ Market final week
The Dundas Farmers’ Market wraps up the season with its final market of 2023 on Thursday, Oct. 19, 2 to 6 p.m. in the municipal parking lot at the corner of Hatt Street and Miller’s Lane, Dundas.
Progressive euchre
Royal Canadian Legion Valley City Branch 36 offers daytime progressive euchre, Oct. 19, 1:30 p.m. at 280 King St. W., Dundas. Cost is $5 per person with prizes for high score female and male.
On Thursday, Oct. 19, 5 to 9 p.m. at Hamilton Convention Centre by Carmen’s, 1 Summers Lane, support the Dr. Bob Kemp Hospice by attending this stylish event, curated by Vogue Models. This year’s fashion show will feature some of Hamilton’s finest retailers and fashion designers. Tickets are available on Eventbrite.
Fora Outdoor Living Ancaster offers a fun-filled evening of learning, cooking, and eating fresh, wood-fired pizza. The next event is Oct. 19, 6 to 7:30 p.m. at 591 Fiddlers Green Rd. Tickets are $69.99 on Eventbrite.
Fall Garden and Mum Show
The annual Fall Garden and Mum Show opens Friday, Oct. 20 at the Gage Park Greenhouse. The show features 100,000 blooms and over 200 varieties of chrysanthemums. City horticultural staff will take guests back to medieval times through dramatic scenes and displays. The event includes a marketplace, entertainment and an in-house café, with games, crafts and activities. The Mum Show runs from Oct. 20 to 29, 9 a.m. to 7 p.m. daily at the Gage Park Greenhouse, 42 Lawrence Rd., Hamilton. Tickets can be purchased at the door or online at www.hamilton.ca/mumshow.
Fabulicious
Hamilton’s Afro-Canadian Caribbean Association (ACCA) in partnership with the 2023 Art Gallery of Hamilton (SGH) Festival, present Fabulicious on Friday, Oct. 20, 5 to 10 p.m. at the ACCA banquet hall at 754 Barton St. E. Fabulicious is an evening of art, live performances and food. Musical performers include DJ Beenie, Lil Acedevo, Walter Mclean, Whitness and 3PB.
