The Flamborough Tyke 2 Sabres, sponsored by Waterdown Collision, wrapped up an exciting 2009/2010 season with a thrilling game in Caledon East.
Taking on the Caledon Hawks, the Sabres stormed off the line, aggressively attacking the Caledon goal. Early on, Sabres’ forwards Chris Churchill, Jack Buiter, Matthew Stone, Connor Wilson and Bella Hooper ground down the Hawks’ resistance with slick passing and quick thinking.
The play of the game came early on as Dante DiFelice took a pass from Matteo McColl and stormed down the centre. Dodging defenders as he went, DiFelice uncorked a rocket that sailed just inside the post, nearly tearing the goal from its moorings.
With the Sabres up 1-0, the defence came alive with Will Curwen, Holden Johnston and Noah Jacobsen taking turns rushing with the puck while Kris Doric, Matthew Damaia and Ashton McCarles cleared the zone and held the fort, as Mason Law cruised the neutral zone looking for a forward with his head down.
The Hawks answered with a couple of quick goals but then, taking a lead pass from Ryan Schaap, Colin MacDougall scored to keep the Sabres close. The Hawks, in return, turned on some pressure at the end, but Tyler Staresinic stood tall and closed up shop.
The Sabres far exceeded expectations during the season, winning some big games and improving by the week.
The team would like to thank its sponsors including Waterdown Collision, Railtran Services, Hooper Welding, Firehall Dentist, Redstone and many others.
Thanks are also owed to head coach Mike Caruso and his coaching staff of Brent McColl, Rick Churchill, Peter Doric, Gord McCarles and John Staresinic for their commitment and dedication throughout the year.
Most of all, thanks goes to every player on the Sabres’ team who worked hard, improved and made the season fun and enjoyable for the parents and coaches alike.
