JUMP: Senior Lady Warrior Megan Wickens spikes a shot back ...
For the 10th consecutive year, the Waterdown District High School senior volleyball girls’ team earned a first-place finish at the SOSSA (Southern Ontario Secondary School Association) championship.
Last Thursday’s double elimination tournament, held at the Waterdown school, saw the Lady Warriors defeat Dennis Morris (St. Catharines) 2-0. Their next match against Saltfleet (Hamilton) resulted in a 2-1 loss for the home team, followed by a victory against Notre Dame (Welland) 2-0.
In order to retain their SOSSA title, the Waterdown girls needed to clinch back-to-back victories in the championship match. And the team delivered, downing the Saltfleet squad by a score of 2-1 in both matches (17-25, 25-23, 15-12 and 18-25, 25-18, 15-9)
The team includes Nadine Greer, Caitlin Jamieson, Sydney Krizmanich, Dana Micheli, Katie Pratt, Kelly Schurer, Maddie Sibiga, Carly Trinier, and Megan Wickens, as well as junior call-ups Lauren Butters and Lindsay Vanderweide.
The team moves on to the AAAA OFSAA championships held in Barrie March 8-10.
