Library events
Watch a movie or take part in a craft activity or kids’ program at Hamilton Public Library branches across the city. See full event listings at hpl.ca.
On Saturday, Jan. 6, catch a free family movie at select branches. Binbrook Library, 2641 Hwy. 56, has “Elemental” from 10 a.m. to noon. Valley Park Library, 970 Paramount Dr., screens “Encanto” from 1 to 3 p.m. Turner Park Library, 352 Rymal Rd. E., presents “Cool Runnings” from 2 to 4 p.m. The Stoney Creek branch, 777 Hwy. 8, screens “The Little Mermaid” from 2:30 to 4:30 p.m.
Saturday, Jan. 6 is your last chance to view current exhibitions and browse the community art book sale at Oakville Galleries, 1306 Lakeshore Rd. E. The event runs from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. with free admission. At Gairloch Gardens, you can visit “Eviction Notice” by Berlin-based Canadian artist Elif Saydam. At Centennial Square, experience creative play and experimentation in the interactive exhibition, “Having Ideas by Handling Materials” by artist-duo Leisure. Enter through the main gallery and explore the book sale in the Education Centre on your way out.
The Upper Coach at Coach and Lantern, 384 Wilson St. E., Ancaster, presents another Blues and Roots Session on Jan. 6, from 1 to 3 p.m. Hear the Coachmen, with Colin Lapsley on bass, Chris Wheeler on guitar and Matt Burns on drums, with special guest, Dylan Wickens. New Year’s levees
A pair of Niagara-area New Year’s levees are planned for Saturday, Jan. 6 and a third for Jan. 7.
In Lincoln, join Mayor Sandra Easton and council to celebrate the new year with free family activities (including skating), light refreshments and local craft beverages. This event runs from 2 to 4 p.m. at Fleming Memorial Arena, 5020 Serena Dr., Beamsville.
In West Lincoln, meet Mayor Cheryl Ganann and members of council this Saturday from 2 to 4 p.m. at West Lincoln Community Centre, 177 West St., Smithville. Enjoy free public skating, refreshments and Greek pastries.
On Sunday, Jan. 7, join Grimsby Mayor Jeff Jordan at Grimsby’s Peach King Centre, 162 Livingston Ave., from 3:10 to 4:30 p.m. for a free skate. Light refreshments will be served.
Delve deep and chart your course for 2024 at the Hamilton Psychic Medium Fair, this Thursday through Sunday, 2 to 6 p.m. daily at TownePlace Suites by Marriott Hamilton, 1195 Upper James St. Admission is $5. See more on Eventbrite.

Winterlit
Enjoy a moonlit stroll along two different trails featuring sustainably sourced, illuminated art installations at Mountsberg Conservation Area, 2259 Milburough Town Line, Campbellville. On Sunday, Jan. 7, from 10:30 to 11:30 a.m., take part in Family Steam Time. This drop-in program will be held in the Tansley Woods branch program room at 1996 Itabashi Way, Burlington. Explore opportunities to design, invent, create, and re-imagine together as a family through loose parts play. This program is available for kids of all ages. Children five and under may participate with direct adult supervision.
