People can join walks in Paris and Burford on May 4 and 5 as part of this year’s celebration of urban activist Jane Jacobs, helmed locally since 2018 by Community Living Brant.
Twelve free community-led walks are taking place locally this weekend — four in Brant County — as part of Jane’s Walk, a global movement inspired by urban activist Jane Jacobs.
The first was in Toronto in 2006, and now includes walks in more than 500 cities, aimed at bringing community-members together to engage in urban literacy.
Community Living Brant has run the event locally since 2018, with virtual walks during the pandemic.

Nathan Etherington, program and community co-ordinator for Brant Historical Society (BHS), will lead a walk on “Gadd’s Alley” in Paris. It will include insights and stories passed down from family members who’ve been residents of the street since the late 1800s, he said.

The historical society will offer additional opportunities to learn about Brantford and Brant County through their annual walking tour program, operating on Saturdays through May and June.
“There’s something to interest people during the summer when you actually want to be outside and get some exercise,” while learning “a little bit of history,” Etherington told The Spectator.
