Ontario Provincial Police are investigating a rash of mailbox thefts in the Dunnville area over the weekend of April 13-14.
In a post on X, formerly Twitter, media relations officer Patti Cote said police are probing “several thefts” from mailboxes and the theft of the mailboxes themselves last weekend.
“Investigators have recovered many, but if you have info, please call #OPP 1-888-310-1122 or (Crimestoppers of Haldimand and Norfolk) @hncrimestoppers,” Cote wrote on X.

In an email to Metroland Tuesday morning, Cote said there are no additional details to share.
“I have no further information currently, as the investigation is ongoing,” said Cote.
When information becomes available, Cote said it will be released via the OPP’s social media channels.
In a followup email, Cote shared the following tips for anyone concerned about identity theft.

• If you were expecting any mail, that contains personal information such as banking records/statements or documents from Canada Revenue Agency (like a social insurance number), you are advised to notify the appropriate agencies to inform them your personal information may be compromised.
• Always check your bank and credit card statements to ensure they are accurate and notify the bank immediately if the statement stops arriving as expected, or if there is activity that was not completed by the account holder.
• Conduct credit checks on yourself periodically to ensure that your credit profile accurately reflects your situation and report any discrepancies immediately.
• Contact the Canadian Bankers Association, Interac, Equifax, or TransUnion for more information.
• Report any theft of this nature to the OPP and the Canadian Anti-Fraud Centre.
To avoid becoming a victim of identity theft, Canada Post urges residents to collect their mail daily and place a hold on your mail delivery if you plan to be away from home. If your mail fails to arrive, contact the senders to ensure they have your correct mailing address.
You can also report any concerns to Canada Post customer service. You should shred documents that contain personal financial information, such as billing statements and credit card offers.
