Ken Kerr of Dundas received first and third place awards in the Birds and Other Wildlife category and an honourable mention in the Natural Winter Scenes category in the 2022-23 winter photo contest.
At the time, Kerr called the UBG and Canal Park “perfect hunting grounds” for nature photographers.

He said that the butterfly garden features “many fascinating flying insects, creepy-crawlies and the odd slithery thingies.” Meanwhile, HCA’s park along the Desjardins Canal provides a setting for various ducks, geese, herons, hawks, the odd “rare bird” and “resident beavers.”
Kerr said Dundas residents are lucky to have these “gems of Mother Nature” conveniently connected to walk, observe wildlife and photograph them.
“The main trick to getting cool photographs … is to not to concentrate so much on the obvious, but to delve a little deeper among the leaves and the bushes and to take your time,” Kerr said.
