Ancaster author Bruce Woods is returning to Flamborough this month, to sign copies of his new book, Between Two Worlds, A Canadian Story.
The new volume is a continuation of the story Woods began in Between Two Women, which chronicled life in the city of Stratford 65 years ago. Between two Worlds still showcases Woods’s ability to laugh at himself, but he describes it as a “more serious read.” The story relates how his friends were aghast at Woods’s decision to become a minister, and tells the story of his journey to rural Ontario and finally to the historic Ruth Morton Memorial Baptist Church in Vancouver – or as Woods refers to it, Canada’s Taj Mahal, because of its storied origins.
Also connected to the Ruth Morton Memorial Church was Terry Fox; Woods describes the revelations made in the book on Fox and his girlfriend Rika Noda as “inspiring, to say the least.”
“I have had an interesting life,” noted Woods, who has had the opportunity to meet many high-profile Canadians throughout his life, including hockey hall-of-famer Paul Henderson. In fact, a huge cross-section of characters make it into Between Two Worlds, including immigrants from India, Austria and Poland, as well as French and First Nations people who cross his path. As well, he takes the reader on a journey that includes all original 10 provinces, Europe, Israel and South America.
And all the while, he invites the reader to laugh along with him, as he offers insight into is how personal foibles and failures, and gives them an opportunity to identify with an all-too-human preacher who relates to others in the their weaknesses.
Woods will be at the Zellers store at the Clappison’s Power Centre every day from December 14-19, from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m., Copies of Between Two Worlds, A Canadian Story will be available for purchase.
